They were named "Vibangwa" in Swahili which in their traditional cone shell were made by cutting the top off and creating a flat shape with the shell's natural grooves

Opal, 18 Karat Gold, Ancient Glass Necklace pearls late 1800'sEthiopian opal mixed with ancient Afghan glass beads, 18 karat gold saucer shape beads, and oxidized sterling silver rosary style chain. 15 1 2 inches long with lobster clasp. Opal beads are 6mm diameter, gold saucers are 4 and 5mm graduated sizes. Center bead is a deep amber color glass about 2,000 years old, 7mm diameter. Textured cylindrical beads are 8mm long x 5mm diameter. Simple and elegant.
