unlike the post war reproductions this plate seems to be authentic to the period

but the characters can still be seen beneath the paint indicating that it could be stripped and restored

with little sign of rust

There is rusting on the inside of the ear flaps

The rifle was fired by means of a musket-style outside hammer whose lockwork was inletted into the buttstock behind the receiver

This is a very nice King's Royal Rifle Corps Other Ranks pre WW1 Busby. It features a Black sealskin exterior with attached plaited cords. There is a corded boss to front, which would usually hold the Regimental insignia, however this example does not have it equipped. The top of the cap is black wool felt and the front is equipped with a black over red & black hair hackle plume. It has a black leather chin strap,
