Of course there werent any TYR Black Ops hangin around back then, but the first swim goggles were made of tortoise shells roughly 700 years ago! A viewing window would get cut out and a small piece of glass or other transparent material was inserted. They WORKED, though, I imagine they made for some bulky and uncomfortable swim gear. A far cry from the tortoise shell goggles of the
