8 5/8” t and in overall good antique condition—there are a couple of holes in the knit on the arms but they are stable and sound

The color along the left edge suggests this was likely once framed

A relatively rare dog portrait, and an early one, c. 1860s 70s I believe, in original gold foil wrap, though the case long gone ( I do like to imagine it was housed opposite a brother or sister or very faithful companion!) .
