This is a beautiful example of Japanese metalwork, sublime in its design and craftsmanship, perhaps once belonging to a Shogun warrior. This Abumi Stirrup is of the typical form for the Edo period, with gorgeous silver inlay work depicting crashing waves and beautiful vinery work with a squash on the bottom. The small moving piece at the top of the stirrup is still held in place by small loops of string, original to
