They have definitely been used with embedded soiling--especially evident on the backs-- but I personally love them all the more for it

There may be some sort of mark on the right side near the bottom (which differs in form from the left side bottom) but I can't make it out

My guess is that it is American

I plucked a handful, signed and unsigned, including this small oil on artist board by Adelaide, c. 1920s 30s I believe, signed at lower left, which I think has a terrific
