Constructed of zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with sword clasp, the obverse with a raised leftward facing profile of Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central inscription of DEM VERDIENST 1914 (FOR MERIT 1914), within an oak leaf
