Footnote: The Order of the Star of Ethiopia was instituted in 1879 by Negus Menelik of Shoa (later Emperor Menelik II). It was awarded in five grades: Knight Grand Cross, I Class Knight Grand Officer, II Class Knight Commander, III Class Knight Officer, IV Class Knight, with a V Class Medal added later.
